What was your first job?
A trainee with South British United.
After three years at South British United, John spent two years as a Lloyd’s broker in London, specialising in North American casualty business. Returning to Australia in 1982, he joined an international broker, before embarking on a career with JMD Ross.

Why/how did you get your start in the industry?
It runs in the blood. John’s father, John J Duncan, chairs the JMD Ross board. His brother Michael is in a senior executive role in the insurance industry overseas.

Good brokers focus first on clients’ needs. They put that into practice by tailoring insurance programs moulded to fit clients’ requirements.
Is there anything else you would like to say about yourself?
I am passionate about providing a comprehensive risk management service to our clients so they can rely on their insurance at the time of claim.

There are many instances when insurance has allowed JMD Ross clients to maintain their income streams after a major loss.
Personal interests and hobbies?
Gardening, motor sports, all football codes, swimming, body surfing, and listening to loud music.
