Windows 10 support will end on October 14, 2025 – here’s what you need to know.
Microsoft has confirmed it will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After this date, security updates, technical support and platform integrations will no longer be available, leaving systems vulnerable to cyber threats.
Microsoft has confirmed that Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) will technically still run on Windows 10 after October 2025, but without support or updates.
That means tools like Teams and OneDrive could become unreliable, logins may be blocked, and safe access to key cloud platforms like Xero, Salesforce and Google Workspace will eventually be cut off.
Increased risks for SMEs
Cyber risk is no longer just a technical issue – it’s a compliance and financial concern. Regulators could interpret continued use of Windows 10 as a breach of data protection obligations, especially if an incident involves personal or sensitive data.
Standards frameworks (ISO 27001, Essential Eight, NIST) explicitly require systems to be patched and supported to comply with maturity standards – essential when others rely on your services.
If you’re unable to migrate to Windows 11 before October 2025, temporary risk-reduction steps include segmenting Windows 10 devices, limiting administrative access, updating all software, maintaining offline backups, and deploying advanced threat monitoring.

Instead of seeing Windows 10’s retirement as a problem, view it as an opportunity to modernise. Upgrading to Windows 11 provides stronger, more consistent security and better control over access and devices – areas often targeted by cyberattacks.
