After years of escalating costs and restricted market appetite, JMD Ross is pleased to report that Financial Planners are finally seeing meaningful relief in their Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance premiums.

Once one of the most challenging Insurance classes, particularly in the wake of the Royal Commission, Retraction by London insurers and COVID-19 disruptions, PI insurance is now benefiting from more favourable market dynamics.

There are several reasons for these improved conditions. Most significantly, an improved regulatory environment has enforced stricter compliance practices for firms, sustained global inflation and subsequent high interest rates have delivered insurers with a better return on their investment income.

This has had a profoundly positive impact on insurers profitability and enticed new market entrants to compete for market share, further driving premium reductions in favour of our clients.

Reap the benefits

JMD Ross Director Bhavesh Radiya said many JMD Ross clients have already experienced improved terms in recent times and benefitted from increased competition. Bhavesh anticipates that the market will continue to be favourable to clients for some time yet to come.

“Based on like-for-like revenue and activities along with a favourable claims experience, most clients can expect some welcome relief in their Professional Indemnity Insurance premiums at least until the end of FY26, barring unforeseen global risks,” he said.

In terms of a recommended strategy on how to best manage the current conditions, JMD Ross suggests the following:

  • Engage with insurers early and with complete transparency – your existing insurer has ridden the wave with you and is most likely going to be your best partner going forward.
  • This is a great time to consider buying higher limits of Professional Indemnity cover, depending on your business as well client size.
  • Consider using part of the savings available towards other insurances, such as Cyber Liability.
  • Insurance markets have been cyclical since the 17th Century. Be aware that it will change again eventually.
